FICS and the New TeamLeague

It's with great pleasure that I write this first article for FICS Team League.
As DaveTheRook announced last month, the FICS Conference of Team 45 45 League
has decided to leave the TeamChess umbrella and form our own league, FICS Team
League!
FICS Team League is born out of the same principles as Team 45 45 League. We
strive to provide the best atmosphere for competitive and fun team chess on
the Internet for FICS members.
When FICS Team League decided to leave the fold from Team 45 45 League, the
split was amicable. We had hoped that FICS Team League would be able to
continue to operate under the TeamChess.org umbrella, using the same web
design and tournament management software giving players the same "look and
feel" while moving the management of the league to FICS players and
establishing new rules that were a better fit for FICS. Unfortunately, we
were unable to reach an agreement with TeamChess.org. Therefore, our first
tournament as FICS Team League will have a much different feel from what most
players have grown accustomed.
Our first tournament, T30, will be run using the email contact method of
previous tournaments. We won't have much (any?) of the automation and "bells
and whistles" which have been developed by TeamChess.org. We are seeking all
web developers with experience in php and mysql programming to help bring
these exciting features to FICS Team League. A small team has already begun
work on creating a new and improved FICS Team League. Unfortunately, it will
take time.
Registration for tournament T30 began on March 21 and will continue through
April 4 with play set to begin on April 11. After one week of team
registrations, we have 20 teams registered! We are well on the way to
making T30 a memorable one. Send your team registrations, including team name
and players, indicating captain and assistant to twinders on FICS. He will
manually enter the team information and post it to the web.
We can be found on the web at http://fics.teamleague.org and on FICS in
channel 101. Watch your email for exciting updates on the progress of web
development for the league!
