2009 STC Bunch Championship!
We proudly present the 2009 STC Bunch Championship!
The Championship starts on July 6--please note this revised date! It runs for 9 weeks, with the highest placed players going on to a 2 week knockout final. The first nine rounds are a Swiss system tournament, with two rating sections on ICC and FICS and one on WCL. We have over 2,100 members--who will win the right to call themselves the champion of all?
Entries are now open! Hit "Read More" for a quick summary of the tournament.
ICC Group A: nyan09 ICC Group B: FutureCGA ICC Group C: zebthegoblin ICC Group D: cityrat
FICS Group A: muralimohan and caballos FICS Group B: Relu FICS Group C: castleden FICS Group D: petlya and buffzoff
Many thanks as always to everbody who helped with running the event, and especially to blkmagic for TDing the FICS sections, fernbap for setting up all those difficult technical things, and BillScotty for providing server space and moral support!
With just one late-ending game yet to be played, the bulk of standings in this year's May Mania are decided. I'll be posting the official results in a couple of days time once everything has been verified. In the meantime, you can check the results on the standings page .
I hope you all enjoyed the tournament--see you in the next one!
Round one May Mania pairings are up! There was a slight delay, for which my apologies, but you should now be able to start discussing a time with your opponent in your Game Forum .
A few points to remember:
Only use the "Set Agreed Time" button when you have actually agreed a time with your opponent. To send a message to your opponent with suggested times, just type in the big white box and hit "Submit".
When it's time to play your game, log into the server, wait for your opponent to arrive, and then issue the command "tell STCRobot play". If you start the game in any other way, the result will not be picked up automatically and may not be recorded at all.
Regretfully, the World Chess Live section of May Mania is cancelled this year owing to a lack of interest. We had some problems letting WCL members know about this event, which may have been to blame for the very low entry; by the Monday on which round one was due to start, we had only four entries. I hope that changes will allow us to get the news out to WCL more efficiently in future, and allow us to run our next event, the STC Championship, on that server in three months from now.
The tournament will of course go ahead on ICC and FICS as planned; we have 125 entries over those two sections. Round one starts later today, and the Player Guide, with guidance on arranging and playing your games is now available--you can find it under the "May Mania 2009" heading on the left.
